[OBDF 110] Best Mesh Mashup 2018

Greetings fellow 3D object enthusiasts! This second assignment involves the Remix Culture. To my understanding, a remix in the world of design consists of combining two or more precedent objects into one alternative outcome. In order to be imaginative, we are encouraged to create juxtapositions as opposed to just remixing arbitrary items we find on Thingiverse. One image that has been prominent and frequently occurring in my mind while I was drawing inspiration is the pear and the light bulb mash up, which was shown to us in class.

 Please sit back and relax. I hope you find some if not all of these remixes somewhat amusing!

"Get it? A mouse!"

 I thought of this one in class while looking at objects in the room.

"What the deuce? Why the hell is my head a football?"
For those of you who have never seen Family Guy before, let me introduce you to Stewie Griffin, a baby whose voice sounds like Rex Harrison and has a rather deranged personality. Oh, and his teddy bear's name is Rupert.

The resemblance between his head and a football is uncanny. I'm sure this was done intentionally by his creator, Seth MacFarlane. A lemon would also work fairly well in this case.

"GRYFFINDOR!"

For the one muggle who hasn't read or seen the Harry Potter series, this is the Sorting Hat as the roof of one of the towers in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

It is clearly the shape of the roofs that has inspired me to combine these two relevant objects together.

"I'm Super-Batman"

This one is controversial, sorry comic connoisseurs but I had to use this contrasting idea. Welcome to the 3DC Universe. "...and I thought my jokes were bad."

"Love Song"

My first plan was to have a petunia instead of the rose because it resembles the bell of the trumpet more. Unfortunately, I could not find a petunia file on Thingiverse. A poppy flower can be very meaningful as it symbolizes the "Last Post" which is almost always performed with a trumpet.

"The Way of the Sword and Bow"

I stumbled across an image of a sword online and I immediately thought the cross-guard of the sword reminded me of a bow. As a weapon, the bow will not function any different than a standard cross-guard. However, I think as an icon, this represents the conjunction plus distinction between melee and ranged weapons.

"Ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, ring, Bananaphone~"

The texture of the phone is of no significance. I simply could not find any other usable rotary phone models. However, I would like to think that a kid has made a phone base out of sand and plopped a banana on top of it.

"Wouldn't this be a fun little treat at the ballparks? The kids would love it!"

All they would really need is a baseball mold for the ice cream scoop. Also, notice the diamonds on the cone. Baseball? Diamond? Oh my gosh, this idea is a home run!

"Are bowling balls designed based on coconuts?"

I was originally going to just have a coconut with some bowling pins, but once again, Thingiverse has limited me to a very basic-looking "coconut". I thought it looked too identical to a bowling ball so I have decided to add a palm tree to better demonstrate my mashup.

"Fire in the hole!"

This concept and the one above came to me while I was cutting fruit at work. Pineapple resembling a frag grenade is actually something I learned from playing Modern Warfare 2. This game has a title, "Pineapple Express" with multiple grenades in the background art.




As you can see, most of my schemes are based on pop culture and common objects because I want my audience to be able to easily recognize and relate to these mashups.
